Andasol 1, the first parabolic trough power plant in Europe, generating electricity since December 2008. In the immediate vicinity, Andasol 2 was completed in 2009 and has been connected to the grid. Together with Stadtwerke München, RWE Innogy, Rhein Energie and Ferrostaal, Solar Millennium is realising the third solarthermal power plant at this site in Andalusia. In June 2010 the assembly of all parabolic trough collectores has been completed.
The Andasol power plants will supply around 500.000 people with climate-friendly electricity and save about 450.000 tons of carbon dioxide per year compared with a modern coal power plant. Subsequently you will find some further information about the solar power plants: a short film (DSL / ISDN, state 06/2009), an animation showing the operation of a parabolic trough power plant and an interesting project description (state 12/2008).
Solar Millennium is specialised in parabolic trough power plants, a proven and future-oriented technology, in which the Group holds a globally leading position. Besides the three Andasol projects in Spain, a parabolic trough power plant is being built in Egypt. Various further projects with an overall capacity of more than 2,000 Megawatts worldwide are in the planning phase with focus on Spain, USA, China and North-Africa. In the future, solar thermal power plants in the south will contribute to Central Europe`s electricity supply.
