The main Anda R&D focus was the expert monitoring of the Skal-ET test chain in continuous operation. The Skal-ET project had already developed a new collector design for parabolic trough power plants which had been integrated into a commercial solar power plant.
Anda R&D has increased the efficiency and reliability of future power plants as well as minimizing the technical risks involved with their construction. The thermal storage of energy using fused salt has also been further developed. Thermal storage enables the operation of the power plant even when there is only a little or no sunshine and is used in the Andasol power plants. A new logistics concept for the construction of commercial parabolic trough power plants has also been developed, together with strategies for the worldwide implementation of solar thermal power plants. The research project was supported by funding from Germany's Federal Environment Agency.
