Flagsol GmbH, based in Cologne, Germany, provides the technology for parabolic trough power plants. The employees can be considered the solar power plant "architects". The engineers design the collectors, calculate the required size of the solar field and arrange the collector equipment in the field. Furthermore, the heat transfer system, energy storage and power block including ancillary facilities are technically running. Flagsol ensures the quality of the collectors with their high precision optics during the construction phase. The company also supplies the controls for the solar field, key components for the operation of the plant as a whole. Flagsol is continually developing parabolic troughs with research and development projects aimed at further consolidating their competitive advantage. Flagsol GmbH is a joint venture between Solar Millennium AG (74.9 percent) and Ferrostaal AG (25.1 percent).
The declared objective of the partners in this joint venture is the establishment of the joint company as the leading provider of solar thermal power plants worldwide. Flagsol focuses on parabolic trough power plants. With their joint company, Solar Millennium and Ferrostaal have combined their competencies for the development and construction of large-scale solar power plants. As a project developer and technology provider, Solar Millennium has technology which has been implemented commercially as well as long standing experience in the development of solar thermal power plants. As a world-renowned plant construction expert and general contractor, Ferrostaal has the financial competence to implement large-scale power plant projects.
Blue Tower GmbH plans, implements and markets the sustainable Blue Tower technology. The Blue Tower converts regenerative feedstock into a clean product gas that is rich in hydrogen, the so-called Blue Gas. Blue Gas is used for generating hydrogen and power in a climate-friendly way. Via hybrid operation, it helps to significantly increase the operating times of solar-thermal power plants.
