China is planning to build solar-thermal power plants, thus adopting this important technology at an early stage. The country passed a law on the implementation of renewable energy sources as far back as January 2006. Also in that year, the Solar Millennium Group founded a regional project development company with Chinese partners. Together with the Solar Millennium subsidiary Flagsol, this project development company conducted a feasibility study for China’s first parabolic trough power plant. To this end, several locations in Inner Mongolia were examined, among others. In October 2010, the first tender was announced based on the positive results from the study. Together with its Chinese partners, the Solar Millennium subsidiary Flagsol submitted a bid for this tender on schedule in January 2011.
