Solar Millennium’s long-term goal is to keep a stake of 5-10% in various solar-thermal power plants. Income from these power plant investments is calculable, as both electricity generation and earnings are easy to forecast given the state-guaranteed feed-in tariffs or other power purchase arrangements. Due to the low operational costs and payment of investment costs by installment, income from these investments rises in the long term. In most cases the power plant operator hires a specialized company to operate and maintain the power plant.
Long-term investments in power plants also facilitate the use of empirical data from continuing operations for quality enhancements or further development of the technology. These empirical data are also available when the participation rights from power plant stakes are sold to funds.
